Rebekah “Becki” R. Gibson

Senior Counsel
Overview

The most difficult decisions are rarely just legal. They sit at the intersection of people, strategy, technology, and risk.

Becki Gibson is a strategic advisor, trusted counselor and privacy leader with nearly two decades of experience helping organizations navigate complex legal, operational, and governance challenges. As General Counsel of Murphy Austin Adams Schoenfeld LLP, she advises firm leadership on ethics, professional responsibility, privacy, cybersecurity, legal operations, and emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.

Few attorneys have served as litigator, prosecutor, educator, privacy officer, executive leader, and general counsel. Drawing on that diverse experience, Becki helps clients and organizations make confident decisions in rapidly changing environments while balancing innovation, compliance, and risk.

Prior to joining Murphy Austin, Becki served as Chief Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer for the California Office of Data and Innovation. As part of the executive leadership team she helped lead statewide initiatives focused on business modernization, user research, privacy, and digital transformation. Throughout her career, she has advised executives, government leaders, and organizations on matters involving governance, technology, employment, procurement, litigation, and regulatory compliance.

Colleagues value Becki’s ability to translate complex legal issues into practical guidance and her collaborative, empathetic approach to problem-solving. She believes the most effective legal counsel does more than identify risk, it helps organizations move forward.

“The future of law belongs to advisors who can bridge people, technology, and strategy. Becki helps organizations do exactly that.”
